For the past twenty years, I have been working and volunteering in the non-profit and education fields fueled by my passions for youth and learning. I have the heart of an educator, the skills of an award-winning writer, and the training of a community organizer and group facilitator.
Currently, I am enjoying my work at Bryant University in Smithfield, RI where I am the Teaching and Learning Projects Administrator, as well as a Writing Specialist and a college success course instructor.
In March 2011, I had my first opportunity to present at a conference. My session at the Northeast Writing Centers Association Annual Conference in New Hampshire was titled "Cultivating Successful Student Writing Teams: How Your Center Can Plant the Seeds of Effective Group Process". I felt it was very successful and I hope to find more opportunities to talk to educators about teaching and supporting group process. The workshop description read:
"There is one essential skill that we all must have in order to succeed in the real world; a skill that prepares us for successful job interviews, careers and civic participation. But after kindergarten, nobody really cultivates it. This workshop will help you better support student writing groups through a deeper understanding of group process, roles, tasks and functions; and to advocate for more explicit teaching of group process theory and skills at your institution."
I am always interested in freelance writing opportunities, especially personal and small business web design and content. Click the web design link to the left to see some of the sites I have created.
My most recent project was working with Dr. Laurie Hazard creating her website at www.lauriehazard.com. Prior to that I worked with Alexis Stoll on the website for her brand new business, Paw to Paw Dog Training. When one of her friends saw the completed site, she emailed her: "The new website is fantastic!!! I love the tone--relaxed, reassuring, confident. That's you, Alexis!!"
Also check out the wedding album I designed for my sister that is being used as a Smilebooks.com sample.
